Brickfields area is one of the pioneer settlements areas in Kuala
Lumpur. The area was built after the massive floods in KL in
1881, when the fast growing city needed a brick making area.
Brickfields was chosen due to the clay resources it possessed
and was also used as the main depot for KTM during the
administration of the British. Workers from Sri Lanka were
brought here to work at the railway construction depot. Many of
them lived in Brickfields quarters and since then Brickfields is
home to the Indian community including trading, business,
cultural and religious facilities. The original pattern of block sizes
is still continued. This area is getting more accessible via
monorail and LRT but still suffers from massive traffic jams
