fireflies go through a complete metamorphosis where they go through four stages in their life cycle, namely the egg, larvae, pupa and adult. after mating, females lay spherical eggs singly or in groups amongst moss and loose soil on the ground. Larvae hatch from the eggs after 15- 20 days and feed on the snails that an be found abundantly in the vegetation near the riverbanks. the larva then develops within 2-3 months before pupating. after a dormant period, adult fireflies emerge from the pupae and are ready to mate and reproduce. the life cycle of the p.tener species takes approximately 6-7 months.
